Systems Engineer, Site Reliability Engineering

Site Reliability Engineering (SRE) combines software and systems engineering to build and run large-scale, massively distributed, fault-tolerant systems.

• Engage in the complete service life-cycle, encompassing inception, design, development, operation, and continual refinement.
• Support services pre-launch through activities such as system design consultation, development of software platforms and frameworks, capacity planning, and formal launch reviews.
• Contribute to the sustained development of our services, ensuring they operate with reliability, minimizing operational toil.
• Maintain live services by measuring and monitoring availability, latency, and overall system health metrics.
• Implement incident response procedures to guarantee services consistently meet their defined Service Level Objective (SLOs).
• Collaborate with partner teams to identify risks within our corporate systems and develop solutions to simplify or mitigate adverse impacts on Googler productivity or business processes.
• Seek opportunities to apply emerging technologies, such as Artificial Intelligence (AI), to address traditional system engineering challenges in effective ways.

• Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, a related field, or equivalent practical experience.
• 2 years of experience with programming in one or more programming languages.
• 2 years of experience working with administration (e.g. filesystems, inodes, system calls) or networking (e.g. TCP/IP, routing, network topologies and hardware, Software Defined Networking).
